The Saskatchewan Playwrights Centre relies on the support and generosity of volunteers, members, and organizations. Without this critical support, the SPC would not be able to operate. All of the funds received go directly into our programming or the administration of those programs.
The arts are an indispensable contributor to a healthy economy. Over 600,000 Canadians work at jobs created by the cultural sector (roughly the same as agriculture, forestry, fishing, mining, oil and gas, and utilities combined). Arts and culture contributes $39 billion annually to our GDP, making arts and culture the third largest industry in Canada.
And yet, many creative workers and non-profit arts organizations struggle to get by. The average worker in the cultural sector earns less than $25,000 a year, and there is not a theatre company in this country that can survive on ticket sales alone.
The arts are important. It is vital that we, as Canadians, be able to tell our own stories. We can’t rely on the whims of changeable governments to support this important economy, which is why we ask for your help.
We are grateful to all of the people who have supported us. To everyone who has supported our fundraising efforts, or volunteered time, we owe a debt of gratitude. We could not do it without you.
